Dr. Gerchow facilitated the behavioral health portions of Alameda County Probation’s Core Training in May and June 2025, guiding new officers – from both Alameda and San Francisco counties—through topics such as substance use, de-escalation, suicide prevention, and stigma.
This cohort energized every session, from laughter during breaks to thoughtful questions and stories that made the material come alive. Officers reflected openly, challenged assumptions, and connected the lessons to their own experiences and communities. ACPD’s supervisors added insights throughout, committed to equipping their newest colleagues with skills that support competent and compassionate work with the young people they serve.
On June 11, 2025, Dr. Gerchow was honored to attend the CORE Graduation Ceremony, made especially meaningful after hearing so much about the families and friends who supported these officers behind the scenes. Seeing those loved ones show up in person to celebrate the graduates brought the experience full circle!
